Privacy Policy: Accessibility Cloud Lite browser extension2026-04-22T13:51:21+02:00

Last updated: 2026-04-22

This Privacy Policy describes how Accessibility Cloud AB (Swedish reg. no. 559345-6204) processes data in connection with the Accessibility Cloud Lite browser extension (the "Extension"). It complements, and does not replace, the general Accessibility Cloud Privacy Policy.

How the Extension works

Accessibility Cloud Lite is a free browser extension that lets users audit the accessibility of any web page they open in their browser. When the user opens the side panel and initiates a scan on the current tab, the Extension injects a content script into that tab and evaluates the page against accessibility rules, including axe-core and ACAI rules. The analysis runs entirely inside the user's browser. The results, a list of accessibility issues and the elements they refer to, are displayed in the side panel and are not transmitted to Accessibility Cloud's servers by the Extension.

Categories of data processed

  • Website content of pages the user actively scans. The content script reads the DOM of the active tab (text, images, ARIA and HTML attributes, structural information) in order to identify accessibility issues. This content is processed locally in the browser.
  • Local cache of scan results. To avoid re-scanning the same page every time the side panel is opened, the Extension stores scan results in the browser's local extension storage, keyed by the origin (scheme and host) of the scanned page. This data never leaves the user's device unless the user explicitly synchronises it with their Accessibility Cloud account.
  • Account data (optional). If the user chooses to connect the Extension to an Accessibility Cloud account, the account-related personal data described in the general Privacy Policy (such as name, email address, and organisation) applies. The Extension itself does not collect additional account data.

The Extension does not collect personally identifiable information, authentication credentials, financial data, health data, personal communications, location data, general browsing history, or user-activity signals such as keystrokes, mouse movements, or scroll behaviour.

Purposes, legal bases, and retention

Processing activities related to the Extension
Purpose Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6) Retention
Providing the accessibility-scanning functionality of the Extension. Performance of a contract, or legitimate interest where no contract exists (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)). Website content is processed in memory for the duration of the scan and is not retained. Cached scan results remain in local extension storage until the user clears them, uninstalls the Extension, or the cache is automatically pruned to stay within its size limit.
Synchronising scans with an Accessibility Cloud account (optional). Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)). As described in the "User accounts" section of the general Privacy Policy.

Permissions requested by the Extension

The Extension requests the minimum browser permissions required for its functionality:

activeTab, scripting
Used to inject the analysis script into the tab the user has explicitly chosen to scan.
storage
Used to cache scan results and user-interface state locally on the user's device.
sidePanel, tabs
Used to display results in the browser side panel and to refresh them when the user switches or reloads tabs.
Host access to all URLs
Required because the user may choose to audit any page, including pages behind authentication or on internal networks. This permission is used solely to inject the analysis script into the tab the user is actively inspecting.

Data sharing

The Extension does not transmit page content, scan results, URLs, or any other processed data to Accessibility Cloud servers or to any third party. No analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking code is included in the Extension. If the user voluntarily signs into an Accessibility Cloud account to synchronise scans, the data-sharing practices described in the general Privacy Policy apply from that point on.

User rights

The rights set out in the "User rights" section of the general Privacy Policy apply to any personal data processed in connection with the Extension. Because the local scan cache is stored only on the user's device, users can exercise their right to erasure in relation to that data by clearing the Extension's storage or uninstalling the Extension.
