Six years ago today, the Web Accessibility Directive’s requirements took effect for every public sector website in the EU. Accessibility statements became mandatory.
Most get published once and forgotten. Sections go missing. Dates go stale. Updates are forgotten. Hence the new feature: ACAI now finds your accessibility statement and verifies what’s in it.
ACAI now test websites and finds out whether an accessibility statement exist, and if so, whether it contains:
- Description of supported accessibility features
- Site’s accessibility limitations
- A feedback mechanism and contact information
- A method to report barriers
- Information about the enforcement procedure
- Means to get offline help
- Accessibility test details of the site
- A list of inaccessible features and content, if any
- Plans to improve accessibility
- Generic meta-data such as generic publication date and update date of the statement
